6/27/2023 0 Comments Adguard safe![]() I've always been a little confused by it. The only question I have for the Community Manager is how does Malware Protection work. Family protection, Blocks websites with adult content, enforces safe search in. However with Adguard Premium my browsing is much faster, probably by milli-seconds but it's noticeable and they have some extra features like HTTPS filtering which is top notch. Does not block advertisement and tracking domains, or any other DNS requests. And it makes sense because there are many great options like uBlock Origin and the Adguard Extension which are free. Since it's open-source software, users can look at the coding to see if there are any security vulnerabilities. I've yet to meet anyone who has it on their computer. Is AdGuard safe AdGuard is a safe third-party software, designed to block ads and improve your browsing experience. One of the challenges in the USA is that many people don't use Adguard premium. In reality, if you select a few options Adguard won't know more than just the basics about your computer and software version and filters. AdGuard is a premium advertising and track blocking service that has been around for years. Step into the Dungeons of Dredmor! Embrace your destiny! Face evil of the likes the world has never known - the terrifying Swarmies, the undulating Thrusties, and the adoreable nest-building Diggles. The land cries out for a new hero, a powerful warrior or a mystic wizard like those spoken of in the prophecies of yore. Centuries later, the magical bonds that hold him in place are loosening and his power grows ever stronger. ![]() ![]() Long ago, the Dark Lord Dredmor was bound in the darkest dungeons beneath the earth by great and mighty heroes. Character permadeath may be enabled or disabled during character creation. The game features three levels of difficulty - Elvishly Easy, Dwarven Moderation, and Going Rogue, equivalent to Easy, Normal, and Hard, respectively. However, doing so is difficult, and per the developers' own admittance, the objective is more often to see how far one can get before dying, and then try again. The objective of the game is ostensibly to find and slay the eponymous Lord Dredmor, the ruler of the dungeons. Shops are also featured on every floor, where players may buy and sell equipment and consumables however, stealing from a shop will result in the player being attacked by many powerful enemies. The player carries an inventory of items, which can include various foods, drinks, potions, crafting materials, etc. Weapons and equipment can be worn to improve player's defences and abilities. The combat focuses on melee, ranged, and magic attacks, as well as use of items and skills. The player begins the game with 7 chosen skills, which may be further improved as the player gains experience levels. Each turn the player may move to or attack monsters in adjacent squares, pick up, drop, and use items, and interact with various in-game objects.Īs in most role-playing games, the player has several character statistics that determine their effectiveness in various aspects of gameplay. The game is turn-based, and both the player and numerous enemies take turns performing actions. The game world is laid out in a tile-based square grid viewed from a top-down perspective, where the player, enemies, and various items and objects occupy discrete squares. Each level is a randomly generated maze of interconnected rooms, filled with monsters, traps, loot, and various objects. The player enters a dungeon at the top floor and gradually progresses down through levels of increasing difficulty. The game starts as the player assumes the role of the game's main character entering a hostile dungeon crawler environment. ![]() He also notes that the game's art sets the game apart from traditional roguelikes that feature ASCII graphics. These puzzles actually add a little more depth to the level design. When you first encounter one you may be inclined to think it’ll be tedious, but they’re really not. You have a ton of scale puzzles, which are designed for characters who jump (yes, characters – more on that later) to assist those who cannot to higher platforms. New gameplay mechanics have been introduced, such as the swimming already mentioned. One could consider it a missed opportunity, but since enough challenge and fun exist without the additional effort required by a treasure hunt, I’ll give this one a pass. Though it’s a nice thought, little searching is needed as most of the items will be found along the way. In each stage you will need to find three items and bring them to the end to advance – a task not present in the original game. Just like The Lost Vikings, you command three characters through a series of puzzle/platform levels where they must work together to reach the exit. ![]() The Vikings embark on another wacky adventure through space and time…well, mostly time actually. Sure, the arm looks cool, and while the swinging mechanic presents a fun, new challenge, I can’t help but feel it only emphasizes how impotent Baleog really is in the sequel. A quick toot will also lift him off the ground, landing on his massive bum, which will decimate certain ground blocks. Whether or not this has anything to do with his recent equipment upgrade is up for debate, but his newfound farting ability gives him just enough air to clear pits without needing to jump. Olaf is quite a bit gassier in this game. This becomes essential to many puzzles involving small openings through which the others cannot fit. Olaf the Stout stole the robot’s shield, which somehow allows him to shrink. And while underwater segments are almost never a good thing, they’re not that bad in Lost Vikings 2. The jets can also ease his drop, preventing a bone-shattering landing.Įric’s helmet upgrade allows him to swim, opening an entirely new world of gameplay as each Viking would simply drown in the first game. What is new – courtesy of the boots – is a double jump, which gives him the extra force needed to crack blocks overhead. While this particular trick isn’t necessarily new, it is a blast to rocket headfirst into a wall. The boots allow him to fly across the screen at breakneck speeds when performing his ol’ head bash maneuver. After the power’s restored, they find themselves decked out in the sleek, metal Viking gear, giving them new abilities.Įric the Swift is made even swifter by his new rocket boots. Due to a system malfunction (courtesy of Tomator’s carelessness/arrogance), the lights go out and the boys beat the robot straight to Valhalla. The three Vikings are transported to the perfect rendition of a nightmarish post-apocalyptic future where they are confronted by a robot security guard (outfitted in some sick futuristic Viking gear) with a time machine. Of course, it’s so easy to take what was special about something original and totally ruin it in a sequel that’s why today we’re going to dissect this one and see exactly what they did right.Įric the Swift, Baleog the Fierce, and Olaf the Stout are on their way home from a fishing trip when they are suddenly captured by…you guessed it… Tomator. Eventually over many millions of years the moon of a planet will tidally lock. In the earlier stages the use of gravitational torque will create a large amount of energy dissipation in the form of internal tidal heating that is created due to the squishing and squashing of the moon’s non ideal rotation on the axis. Torque from the gravitational forces will try to maintain an equilibrium state for the moon that over time will be the tidally locked position for the moon. In order to combat this distortion a moon has to adapt to the gravitational forces otherwise it will swing in a pendulum motion (which is theoretically what happens in the beginning stages). Moving onto the explanation, the reason for tidal locking is due to the gravity on a moon not being uniform throughout it’s entire body, meaning the side facing Earth, Jupiter, Saturn etcetera will have a larger gravitational force per unit mass over the opposite side.Īs a result the weaker side will lag behind and distort the moon into an elliptical shape. It only became as such over countless years and after physics had played its part in the equation.Īccording to many physicists it took roughly 100 million years for the moon to be tidally locked to Earth, which is also roughly the amount of time it took for the moons of the other planets within our solar system to achieve the same feat. The whole process is a little complicated to explain but, I’ll try to do so in a manner that is somewhat easy to understand.įirst of all it’s worth noting that moons and particularly our moon weren’t always tidally locked to Earth. When a moon is within the gravitational pull of a planet the gravity of the planet forces a moon to orbit it, which results in a moon tidally locking to their respective planet (eventually). Moons are tidally locked to their respective planets due to the gravitational pull a planet has on them when they’re in the said planet’s region of orbit. (you can read about it by clicking here though) Why Are Moons Tidally Locked To Their Respective Planets? Sometime planets like Mercury can be confused as being tidally locked to the sun for example but, that’s a slightly different subject. ![]() The same can be said for a large number of other moons that orbit their respective major planets too. In fact the moon spins around it’s axis once every full orbit it makes around our Earth, which roughly equates to 7 days for both.Īs a result we only see one side of the moon even though it continues to spin on its axis. You may assume that the Moon is stationary however, this isn’t the case. This is the reason why we only see specific side of the moon which has been the case since we first saw the entity. If you’re unfamiliar with what tidal locking is, it’s when a body orbits around another object where its day and year length are equal to it’s orbit around said body, which results in that object only facing the other object in one locked position.
6/27/2023 0 Comments Products of fission uranium 235Uranium enrichment removes some of the uranium-238 and increases the proportion of uranium-235. Heavy water reactors and some graphite moderated reactors can use natural uranium, but light water reactors must use low enriched uranium because of the higher neutron absorption of light water. ![]() Most neutron absorptions induce fission, though a minority result in the formation of uranium-236. For fast neutrons it is on the order of 1 barn. Its fission cross section for slow thermal neutrons is about 584.3☑ barns. It was discovered in 1935 by Arthur Jeffrey Dempster. Uranium-235 has a half-life of 703.8 million years. It is the only fissile isotope that exists in nature as a primordial nuclide. Unlike the predominant isotope uranium-238, it is fissile, i.e., it can sustain a nuclear chain reaction. Uranium-235 ( 235U or U-235) is an isotope of uranium making up about 0.72% of natural uranium. The storage pools are also designed to evacuate the heat generated by the radioactive decays.Uranium metal highly enriched in uranium-235 ![]() This activity is very high, estimated to be about 2.5 million curies ( 7 times 10 to the power 16 becquerels) per ton of nuclear spent fuel.īefore handling spent fuel assemblies, it is necessary for radioprotection to store these assemblies inside pools by letting their radioactivity decrease a few years : first in a pool close to the reactor and, in the case of a reprocessing, inside the interim storage pool of the reproceessing plant (la Hague in France) where they are transfered. They represent the main source of contaminations due to the Chernobyl accident and former tests of atomic bombs decades after these events.įission products are responsible for virtually all the radioactivity of spent fuel just removed from a reactor core: 99.5% of beta and gamma activity. ![]() They are troublesome, because if they are much less active than iodine-131 for instance, they disappear slowly. At age 35 the heat of 2350 watts fell to 700 watts, two products of fission – Cesium-137 and strontium-90 – alone emit 84% of this heat.įission products such as cesium-137 (30-year half-life or period) and strontium-90 (28-year period) have “intermediate” life times. At the age of 5 years, the short-lived fission products contribute about 90% of the heat release and the minor actinides (americium and curium) for only 11%. They still emit excessive heat caused mainly by the decay of fission products contained therein. This highly mobile and volatile element was the main radioactive hazard immediately after the accident, since it is estimated that around 10% of fission products present in the reactor have been dispersed in the atmosphere.Ĭontainers of vitrified waste from the nuclear industry are too recent to have had time to age. Iodine-131 is one of the fresh fission products that were released during the Chernobyl accident. The accumulation of xenon-135 after a reactor shutdown becomes a poison for fission reactions and prevents its immediate restart. On the contrary, if the half-life is of a few years, the radioactive nuclei will accumulate because they do not have had time generally to disappear.Įxamples of very short-lived fission products are xenon-135 (period 8 hours) and iodine-131 (period of 8 days). Will be present at a given time only freshly produced such nuclei. When the period is very short – for example a few days – much of the radioactive nuclei have reached stability when the fuel is discharged from the core. ![]() These radioactive life times are to be compared with the residence time of the nuclear fuel in the reactors which is usually three years. Strontium-90 is one of the major radioactive fission products found in reactors. It will take about 10 times that long for the fragment radioactivity to disappear. The light fragment of 90 nucleons evolves rapidly at the beginning, but the cascade remains stranded with the fourth element, the strontium-90 whose period is around 30 years. Here, a heavy fragment of 143 nucleons passes through 3 intermediate nuclei, whose period ranges from 14 minutes to 33 days, to reach the stable nucleus terminal of the chain (neodymium-143). The products found in reactor spent fuels are no longer the fresh fragments of an Uranium-235 fission. 6/27/2023 0 Comments Nottingham md![]() Receptionists are responsible for several different tasks depending on the organization in which they work.įor example, a receptionist who works for a company that sets several in-office appointments may spend much of their time scheduling appointments with clients, whereas receptionists who work for companies that do not have many in-office appointments may spend their time doing other administrative tasks. It then started rising again and by December 2008, Chrome again passed the 1% threshold. After the initial surge, usage share dropped until it hit a low of 0.69% in October 2008. Ĭhrome quickly gained about 1% usage share. Google responded to this criticism immediately by stating that the language used was borrowed from other products, and removed this passage from the Terms of Service. This passage was inherited from the general Google terms of service. On that same day, a CNET news item drew attention to a passage in the Terms of Service statement for the initial beta release, which seemed to grant to Google a license to all content transferred via the Chrome browser. The browser was first publicly released, officially as a beta version, on September 2, 2008, for Windows XP and newer, and with support for 43 languages, and later as a "stable" public release on December 11, 2008. Public releaseĪn early version of Chromium for Linux, explaining the difference between Chrome and Chromium Google kept the development project name as the final release name, as a "cheeky" or ironic moniker, as one of the main aims was to minimize the user interface chrome. The product was named "Chrome" as an initial development project code name, because it is associated with fast cars and speed. Google subsequently made the comic available on Google Books, and mentioned it on their official blog along with an explanation for the early release. Copies intended for Europe were shipped early and German blogger Philipp Lenssen of Google Blogoscoped made a scanned copy of the 38-page comic available on his website after receiving it on September 1, 2008. In September 2004, rumors of Google building a web browser first appeared. After co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page hired several Mozilla Firefox developers and built a demonstration of Chrome, Schmidt said that "It was so good that it essentially forced me to change my mind." He stated that "at the time, Google was a small company", and he did not want to go through "bruising browser wars". Google CEO Eric Schmidt opposed the development of an independent web browser for six years. Because of this success, Google has expanded the "Chrome" brand name to other products: ChromeOS, Chromecast, Chromebook, Chromebit, Chromebox, and Chromebase. Īs of October 2022, StatCounter estimates that Chrome has a 67% worldwide browser market share (after peaking at 72.38% in November 2018) on personal computers (PC), is most used on tablets (having surpassed Safari), and is also dominant on smartphones and at 65% across all platforms combined. WebKit was the original rendering engine, but Google eventually forked it to create the Blink engine all Chrome variants except iOS used Blink as of 2017. Most of Chrome's source code comes from Google's free and open-source software project Chromium, but Chrome is licensed as proprietary freeware.
